No fewer than 50 suspected cultists of Eiye and Aiye confraternity and 53 other suspects have been paraded by men of the Ogun State Police Command in Eleweran Abeokuta.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson while parading the suspects on Thursday, said the cultists were arrested while planning to launch an attack on unsuspecting members of the public to mark their group yearly anniversary, tagged 7/7 day.
CP Ebrimson noted that on July 7, at a hideout in Ifo local government area of the state, operatives attached to division arrested nine suspected cultists planning their notorious 7/7 day.
The CP stated that three members of the notorious cult group were arrested on 6th July for planning to launch a bloody attack on July 7 at Epe garage area of Ijebu-Ode.
Also, he said SARS operatives in Abeokuta who were on township patrol arrested nine members of the Aiye cult group in different parts of the state capital.
Ebrimson further explained that, the IGP-IRT annex working on intelligence report cordoned-off two hotels in Ijoko-Ota where 27 members of Eiye confraternity apprehended.
Addressing newsmen during the parade the CP said, “upon information received about the activities of an Aiye cult group to launch an attack on their yearly 7/7 celebration, operatives from Anti-Cultism unit led by DSP Muyiwa Adeosun swung into action and went straight to an unnamed hotel at Ogijo where some suspected cult members were holding their meeting.
“Immediately they sighted the police, they took to their heels but three among them were promptly arrested.
“Also, following information about the plan cult group anniversary celebration scheduled to hold on 7/7/2020 across the state, the IGP-IRT Ogun State Annex working on an intelligence report cordoned-off Ade royal hotel and Delkish hotel both at Gasline Ijoko-Ota where members of the group converged to hold a meeting on havoc on 7/7, in the process 27 of the Eiye confraternity were apprehended.”
Also paraded by the police was a 44-year old pastor, Oluwafemi Oyebola who was arrested for allegedly raping his daughter (name withheld).
While parading Oyebola, the CP said the pastor of C.A.C Ogo Oluwa parish, was arrested after his 24-year-old daughter reported the case at Owode-Egba division of the command.
According to the CP: “The victim reported that her father started the act since 2015 when she was 19-years-old, shortly after the demise of her mother.
“The victim added that her father has impregnated her three times, aborting all the three pregnancies for her, after which he took her to a matron, who did family planning for her.”
Speaking with newsmen during the parade, the pastor confessed that he slept with his daughter, blaming the act on the devil.
He, however, denied aborting pregnancies for her, as well as doing a family planning for her.
Meanwhile, the matron who did family planning for the victim and was paraded alongside the suspect, Ogundimu Monilola, confessed in her interview with newsmen during the parade, that she did.
However, Ms Monilola said that the suspect lied to her, saying the victim was a housemaid.
The matron said she did go ahead with the family planning thinking that the girl was a maid and because any girl above 18 years can do family planning.
She noted that every job has its hazards and what happened to her was part of the hazards of her profession.
Other paraded suspects include; suspected vandals; a fake lawyer, a fake pharmaceutical drug manufacturer and suspected robbers.
