Uniosun shut down indefinitely

The management of Osun State University has indefinitely shut down the institution workers’ protest.

This was contained in a release signed by the university registrar, Gafar Adebayo, on Monday.

The statement read: “The Governing Council of Osun State University has approved the closure of the University with immediate effect. This is sequel to the notorious activities of some non-teaching staff members under the guise of unionism. These activities now pose danger to lives and properties within and around the university campuses.

“Management wishes to sincerely apologize to parents, guardians and students for any inconveniences that this closure may cause. Efforts are geared towards addressing the prevalent lawlessness, finally.

“We urge our law abiding staff and students to remain calm and stay away from the campuses in the meantime.”

CAMPUS REPORTER reported last week that the non-academic staff of the institution under the aegis of Joint Action Committee embarked on an indefinite protest against the management for allegedly suspending of some of their union leaders.

The workers consisting of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Academic of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the institution also accused the Vice-Chancellor, Labo Popoola of victimizing their leaders for exposing alleged financial misappropriation in the school.
