University of Uyo Clarifies Gradual Resumption of Activities

The Management of the University of Uyo has directed members of staff to CONTINUE TO WORK FROM HOME until further directives from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the University Registrar, Mr Aniediabasi Udofia.

Mr Udofia noted that the decision was a reaction to directives from the Head of Service of the Federation on a “phased and gradual easing of the lockdown measures occasioned by COVID-19,” dated April 30, 2020 (HCSF/109/S.1/1/100).

He directed that “All Staff on Grade Levels 13 (CONTISS/CONMESS), CONUASS 5 and above as well as Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Units SHOULD CONTINUE TO WORK FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE HOMES,” as approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Enefiok E. Essien (SAN).

The Registrar noted that “the National Universities Commission(NUC) was yet to offer clarification on the resumption of Universities, considering its peculiar structure.”

“However, all staff on essential services are to continue to render same as appropriate,” he added.

He also urged members of staff to ensure full compliance with Government directives and advice on the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures, including maintenance of social distancing, regular washing and/or sanitizing of hands and wearing of face masks.

The Registrar also extended good wishes from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok E. Essien (SAN) to staff, students and other members of the University Community, urging them to stay safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had forced the closure of schools, grounding academic activities across the country since March 2020.

However, the recent gradual easing of lockdown by the Federal Government has provided students, parents and other stakeholders with hopes of resumption of academic activities, in no distant time.
