The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan as the Head of its National Office in Nigeria.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, on Tuesday.
Patrick Areghan takes over from Olutise Adenipekun, who retired from the services of the council on the 5th of March 2020.
Areghan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Benin, as well as a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
According to the statement, he joined the employment of the examination body in 1989 as Assistant Registrar II and has since held many responsibilities in the examination and administrative capacities at WAEC.
He served as Branch Controller, Kano from 2009 – 2013, Zonal Coordinator, Portharcourt from 2013 to 2014 and later at the Abuja Office in the same capacity from 2014 – 2016.
Areghan rose to the position of Director of Administration in 2018 and served as Senior Deputy Registrar from 2018 to 2019. He was also Head of the Test Administration Division, a position he held before his new appointment.
He is a fellow of Corporate Governance Professionals of Nigeria (FCGP) and is married with children.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is West Africa’s foremost examining board established by law to offer qualitative and reliable educational assessment in the English-speaking West African countries, as well as award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally.
