Kwara Govt Distributes Hand Sanitisers To Schools

The Kwara State Government has distributed more hand sanitisers to schools across the state as JS3 and SS3 students prepare for their final examinations. Reportedly, 50,000 pieces of 200ml and another 2000 pieces of (one) 1 litre of hand sanitisers were given to schools in Kwara State as exit class students begin examinations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes barely four days after CAMPUS REPORTER published a brief investigative article on how staggered preparation and fear among teachers marred the first week of schools reopening in the state. In the report, teachers and students who spoke with CAMPUS REPORTER spoke on the insufficiency of protective materials distributed by the state government.

During the first week, 65,000 facemasks were distributed among the registered students in each school, but the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, noted that the materials were only for a start as the government will continue to support them until the curve of the virus is flattened.

According to medical experts, physical distancing, constant hand washing, using alcohol-based hand sanitisers and wearing face masks, among others, are some of the measures we should be employing to flatten the curve of the infection.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Saba Mamman Jibril, while handing the sanitiser to the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Fatimah Bisola Ahmed, emphasised that the sanitisers are for both teachers and students across the state “These sanitisers are to be distributed to schools across the state as our SS3 students started their West African Examination Council examinations today and very soon the JSS3 too will start their exam,” he explained.

Jibril, who recalled that the state had earlier given out 65,000 face masks to the students and teachers which CAMPUS REPORTER observed were only distributed according to the number of registered students, advanced that the pandemic is still much prowling from pillar to post.

He, therefore, urged school authorities to continue to advise the students to comply with various safety protocols to stay alive.

“The pandemic is still here and the government is trying its best to counter it. We appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prompt approval and releases for the fight against COVID-19 in the state.

“We urge principals to ensure that the students use these items. Our students must not be careless just because they are writing exams. They must use their face masks at all times. They are the end-users of these items. Ahmed said the 65,000 face masks earlier presented by the state government had been distributed while the hand sanitisers would be evenly distributed to all the schools in the state.

“I want to commend Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactiveness in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state. I want to assure the public that the sanitisers will be evenly distributed to the schools across the state,” she added.
