Osinbajo commissions UI’s new medical research complex

Nigeria’s vice-president Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday commissioned the Nathaniel Idowu Multidisciplinary Translational Research Centre at the University of Ibadan.

The N350 million facility was donated to UI’s medical school by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation.

UI is the flagship of tertiary education in Nigeria owing to the fact that the institution is the recipient of about 50% biomedical grants in the country”.

“This 350 million research complex consists of teaching rooms for research purposes. The essence of biomedical research complex is tailored towards improvement in health care,” said Mr Osinbajo.

He commended the generosity of the foundation, stressing the Federal Government appreciates their philanthropic gestures over the years.

Mr Osinbajo further called on philanthropists to partner with the government to contribute their own quota to the development of the nation.

In his remark, the UI’s deputy vice-chancellor, Kayode Adebowale, applauded the foundation for their contributions to the infrastructural development UI.

Speaking on behalf of the foundation, Yemi Idowu, said the project was in fulfilment of the philanthropic gestures of late Nathaniel Idowu who requested that his good works be continued in his absence. He expressed delight at the contributions and the Investment in the school’s infrastructural development. He said the foundation remains committed to doing more.
