The management of Rufus Giwa polytechnic, Owo, has announced the date for the shool’s pending Students Union Election.
This was contained in a circular with reference number RUGIPO/DSA/48VOL.IV/78, signed by Komolafe A.J on behalf of the Director of Student Affairs, M.O Oloye.
The circular read: “Consequent upon the Rector’s approval on elections of executive members for Students Union Government and part-time students, Union, after the stakeholders meeting held on 2nd February 2021, the directorate wishes to inform the entire member of the polytechnic that the election would hold between 5th and 9th of February, 2021.”
According to the circular, the ban on student politics and the constitution of electoral committee will be lifted on the 2nd of February kickoff while the purchase of forms will begin on 3rd of February and screening of eligible aspirants will hold on 4th February, 2021.
The circular also added that departmental, faculty and hall meeting elections will hold on February 5, electronic campaigns by all the aspirants and students representative council election will hold on February 8 and the Student Union election will hold on February 9, including the announcement of results.
Recall that the election slated to hold last year was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The circular made compliance with the COVID-19 rules and regulations by the aspirants during their campaigns, and most especially the election day, mandatory.
