UNIZIK Inaugurates Council of Class Representatives

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on the 25th of November 2021, held an inauguration ceremony for the Council of Class Representatives as an official organ of the school. The event, which took place at the school’s Multi-purpose Hall (MPH), witnessed dignitaries who graced the occasion. Those present at the event included the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Director of Awka Window On America, the Deputy Director of Quality Assurance and Certification, Dean of Studies Prof. Chinonso Achebe, the incumbent SUG president Anih Livinus Chukwuemeka, past SUG presidents and ExCo members as well as student leaders amongst others.

The Council was initiated by the SUG president, Comr. Anih Livinus Chukwuemeka on the 8th of August 2021, who handed over to his deputy, Comr. Wisdom Onuoha after his inauguration as the 29th SUG president. At the event, the welcome address was read by the President of the Council, Comr. Wisdom Onuoha, followed by a speech from the Dean of Studies.

Here, he spoke on the role of students towards actualising Project 200, where the university intends to be counted amongst the top 200 Universities in the world by the year 2025. Also, he broke down the prospects of Project 200 and how students can help the administration to achieve the dream. 

Additionally, the Deputy Director of Awka Window On America, disclosed how students can leverage the numerous opportunities and trainings available in the organisation to develop and grow. According to her, the Awka Window On America is one of the tools that will help to improve the image of the school worldwide.

The guest speaker, Queen Nwanyinnaya Chikwendu, a youth advocate and former SUG Vice President spoke to the students on her experience as a student of the school where she condemned the popular trends of students posting things that damage the image of the school on social media. In her words: 

“Achieving Project 200 is our sole responsibility and it affects us all, the light they see your school is the same way they will see you. Be mindful of what you post on social media.”

She urged the students to always think and be innovative instead of just attending lectures every day. Finally, she reminded the Class Representatives of their role in ensuring that other students Project 200 vision and key into it.

Shortly after, a 5-minute speech was presented by six contestants on the theme of the occasion. A cash price of Thirty Thousand Naira, Twenty Thousand Naira and Ten Thousand Naira was presented to the winner, first runner up and second runner up, respectively. 

Finally, an award was presented to Dean of studies Prof. Chinonso Achebe and other distinguished students leaders. The event closed after a word of advice from the Dean.
